The Permian Basin Writers Workshop was born through the efforts of the Midland County Public Libraries, and the Midland County Public Library Foundation. Its purpose was and is to bring nationally recognized members of the writing community to the Permian Basin once a year to provide high level professional development for the local writing and literary community.
Today, the Workshop is administered under the Permian Basin Bookies, a nonprofit organization of West Texas writers seeking to bring national recognition to the plethora of talent in the area. The Bookies are open to membership of those wanting to improve their craft and sell what they write. Improving literacy from the beginning reader to the most professional writer is always on the mind of the organization.
